Basingstoke’s
new children’s centre - The HoneyComb Centre – is celebrating
International Women’s Week with a groundbreaking event for local
female business
proprietors. The event on 6th March will bring together a number of important
local
agencies including Basingstoke Early Years, Basingstoke Voluntary Services
and
Enterprise Solutions, a local community based agency specialising in entrepreneurial
development.
At the event, women completing a new innovatory business course called
Participation
through Enterprise, which has been delivered at the HoneyComb
Children’s Centre, will
be award their certificates of completion. Their achievements and those
of other female
entrepreneurs and leaders will be celebrated in opening addresses: from
Director Rahela Khanom, Director Annie Noble, aspiring business owner
Arifa Ahmad and Holly McAuley Basingstoke and Deane’s Early Years.
The day will then
offer local women an opportunity to sample the services of female entrepreneurs
through a range of workshops selected to stimulate their good health and
well-being.
The day will advance women’s aspirations, enable them to try new
things, relax,
unwind and have fun.
The international women’s week event pays tribute to women and the
many challenges
they encounter, as wives, mothers, daughters and females. The day offers
an
opportunity to find out about childcare provision and a chance to meet
with a range
of local children services providers, including: Managers of other Children’
Centres in
Basingstoke, representatives from the Children Information Services and
the
Citizen Advice Bureau Workshops available include: stimulating personal
development
sessions, tranquil Islamic crafts, advice on setting up community organisations
and
information about volunteering, self-defence and a range of relaxing and
indulgent
reduced price pamper sessions (£4.00 for 15mins). Children’s
face painting will be
available at £2.00 per child. A free lunch will be provided and
a free crèche place,
but places are limited.
Annie Noble Director of Enterprise Solutions said ‘A central objective
of this day is to
include ethnic minority women, many of whom have childcare responsibilities.
Normally, they do not access such services because of childcare issues,
language
barriers, cultural shock and shyness. Through this event they will have
an opportunity
to acquire information out about accessing local main stream services
and find out
about female-run businesses’.
The idea for this event arose when the HoneyComb Centre agreed to host
the first
Participation through Enterprise course in Basingstoke. The crèche
facilities at the
Centre enabled 15 ethnic minority women, many with responsibility for
small children,
to access childcare and a training course. This partnership enabled women
to
participate in business start-up training, access personal development
sessions
and get closer to achieving their ambition to set up a business.
HoneyComb Children’s Centre Dennis Czech said; ‘This event
is a good opportunity
for women to feel good about themselves and enjoy each others achievements’.
The International Women’s Week event is on Friday 6th March from
9:30am – 2:30 pm.
Entrance is free. From 9:30 – 10:20 there will be an opening address
and the award
of certificates to PtE students. Workshops start at I0:30 and end at 2:30
